Memoirs!!

On the morning of June 1, 2024, we set off for the airport. Since the rainy season had already begun, I was mentally prepared for flight cancellations. We waited at the airport until noon, when the airline finally announced the flight was canceled. Sudeep and I discussed alternative plans, considering whether to take a helicopter or travel by jeep overland. After some inner struggle—because I was so eager to get to the mountains—I decided to pay extra and take the helicopter. Finally, around 2 p.m., we arrived in Lukla and officially began my EBC journey. Just two hours into the trek, my hiking boots broke. It was raining at the time, making the trail even more difficult to walk on. That’s when I truly felt Sudeep’s professionalism. He constantly checked in on me and would stop at slippery spots to make sure I passed safely before moving on. He was very familiar with the route and immediately took me to a nearby shop to buy new shoes. He also adjusted our itinerary, changing our first stop from Monjo to Phakding. This thoughtful arrangement made me feel very reassured. In the days that followed, Sudeep always checked whether I was hungry, reminded me to drink more water, and monitored my physical condition. Since I wasn't used to the local staple foods in Nepal, he noticed I wasn’t finishing my meals during the first two days and grew concerned that I might not have enough energy. After I told him the truth, he suggested I switch to fried rice or fried noodles. That way, I could eat well and keep up my strength. During this time, I had the freedom to choose my meals—how much or little didn’t matter, as long as I was full. We had originally planned to stay a day in Namche for altitude acclimatization. However, after discussion and assessing my condition, we decided to continue ascending the next day. This was because, during the rainy season, the chances of return flights being canceled are high, and we wanted to leave more time for the way back. We later canceled the second acclimatization day as well, since my body was still doing well. As the altitude increased, the wind grew stronger and the temperature dropped. Whenever I felt hot and wanted to take off my jacket, Sudeep would stop me, because he knew exactly where the strong winds would hit and where it would be safe to remove layers. At times, he felt like a caring mother, always looking out for me. Throughout the journey, I was well taken care of by Sudeep, and we became good friends. After returning to Kathmandu, we continued hanging out, eating and exploring together, and even visited his hometown. This experience became a precious memory in my life and deepened my emotional connection to Nepal and the Himalayas. This EBC trek not only challenged my physical strength and willpower but also gifted me with friendship and beautiful memories. Thanks to Sudeep's professionalism and attentive care, I was able to complete this journey smoothly. Now, I’m already looking forward to my next adventure—the ABC trek.
